Berea: Southern charm with a side of Spoonbread

by
Boone Tavern spoonbread

The Historic Boone Tavern Hotel & Restaurant of Berea College is celebrating 110 years of providing Southern hospitality and charm.

The Folk Arts and Crafts Capital of Kentucky, Berea also takes pride in their unique award-winning cornbread soufflé, locally known as Spoonbread. The airy cornmeal and egg creation is best served warm with a side of butter, honey or sorghum, experts say.

And while there are many recipes to make your own Spoonbread, the real excitement is within the quaint atmosphere of Berea. Want to try it for yourself? Mark your calendars for the annual Spoonbread Festival, Sept. 20-22.
