Kentucky educator carries student with spina bifida on class trip

Some say that teachers carry the future on their shoulders. One Kentucky educator has taken that saying to the next level.

When Louisville’s Tully Elementary School planned a class trip to the Falls of the Ohio State Park, fourth grader Ryan Neighbors thought she wouldn’t be able to participate. Ryan was born with spina bifida, which has confined her to a wheelchair since birth.

That’s when educator Jim Freeman stepped in. He carried the 10-year-old on his back the entire field trip to ensure Ryan would not have to miss out and has received national attention for this act of service.
