Future of public transit impacts workforce

by Sally Schroder

Public transportation is important to economic development. Technology-inspired change – from autonomous vehicles to ride-sharing options – is reshaping the needs of the workforce. TARC – the bus system that serves Louisville and southern Indiana – is developing new short- and long-range plans for the future of regional transit.

“We want to make sure we’re offering the right services at the right times in the right places,” said Ferdinand Risco, TARC’s interim executive director. “With more than 80 percent of TARC trips being to work or school, the connection between excellent bus service and workforce development could not be more clear.”
