The goods hauled by heavy trucks on Kentucky’s highways and interstates each year would fill more than 100,000 Walmarts with inventory – totaling more than $400 billion.
These ‘rolling warehouses’ are projected to increase by 65% in the next 25 years – severely straining the Commonwealth’s underfunded transportation system and potentially hindering economic growth, according to a report from TRIP, a nonprofit transportation research group.
With many businesses and jobs at risk, it’s time for Kentucky to join surrounding states and substantially increase revenues for building and improving our roads. With apologies to Walmart’s slogan, “Invest Money, Live Better.”
