Forget A’s, B’s and C’s – after four years, the Kentucky Department of Education has a new way of classifying public schools: a five-star accountability system.
School subject performance (in math, science, reading, writing and social studies), a student’s academic progress over a year, transition readiness and graduation rates are factors influencing the five-star rating. Fifty-six schools received a five-star rating for the 2018-2019 school year.
“Being rated at the pinnacle of Kentucky’s school accountability system is no small feat, and comes only as a result of strategic leadership, hard work and partnership,” said Kentucky Commissioner of Education Wayne Lewis.
