Networking events seem so sterile to me. That’s why I used to hate them. Then, I learned some tricks of the trade:
• Enter every conversation truly believing you have something to learn from it.
• Ditch the sales pitch. Focus on how you can help people rather than how they can help you.
• Resist the urge to arrive late. You’ll have an easier time creating real moments in uncrowded rooms.
• Just talk. Conversational competence may be one of the most valued 21st-century skills. Many fail to embrace that. But, luckily, practice helps you excel.
