All that bourbon has to be aged in something, so the bourbon boom has increased demand for barrels. That’s why Pennington Stave and Cooperage Corp. is investing $34.4 million in a Metcalfe County mill.
“Kentucky’s iconic bourbon industry has been an economic powerhouse for generations,” said Gov. Matt Bevin. “From barrel production to distillation, the commonwealth continues to be the perfect fit for any company tied to the production of bourbon and spirits.”
The startup will likely create 126 full-time jobs. The building will house equipment and technology for stave production, timber seasoning and a wood drying kiln.
