You’ve heard “cranes in the sky” cited as a measure of a community’s growth and vitality. Water mains are hidden below ground, but may have a larger ripple effect.
New water mains are installed to accommodate new subdivisions or commercial projects and expand a community’s economic and residential capacity. (Fun fact: Robots inspect large water mains.)
Last year, for example, Louisville Water Company installed 17.5 miles of new water main – more than three times as many as in 2012. That equals over 3,000 homes and businesses. Louisville Water expects to maintain that rate this year, working with developers.
