Louisvillians are digging a new outdoor offering in Butchertown. After decades of planning and fundraising, the 23-acre Waterfront Botanical Gardens is now open.
The highly anticipated gardens and educational center are already attracting attention for family-friendly activities, environmental fairs and gardening classes. With phase one complete, the first fountains and flowers are just the beginning of what is planned for this impressive sustainable redevelopment project.
Once the site of a landfill, Waterfront Botanical Gardens will continue to grow. Future phases include pollinator gardens, a medicinal meadow, a Beargrass Creek overlook and a conservatory filled with plants rarely grown in Kentucky.
