Bridging Kentucky is one of the most aggressive transportation programs in the country, with at least 1,000 bridges moving to construction in six years. Why so fast? Safety.
Kentucky has about 1,000 bridges in poor condition or rated below the required capacity to safely carry buses and emergency vehicles. About 70 bridges are closed, and others nearing closure.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is not waiting for bridges to fail, it’s moving fast to restore bridges using a data-driven, cost-saving approach. In 2019 alone, about 400 bridges will be restored. Track progress of a bridge near you.
