Mary T. Meagher set her first world record swimming the 200-meter butterfly at 14 years old.

In 1981 she broke her previously set records for the 100-meter and 200-meter butterfly at the U.S. Swimming National Championships. Her 100-meter time was 57.93 seconds and her 200-meter time was 2:05.96. She held these astonishing records for 18 and 19 years respectively.

She went on to win medals in the 1984 and 1988 Olympics. Meaghan holds 24 national swimming titles and 9 world championships.

The Mary T Meagher Aquatic Center in Louisville is named after the athlete and opened to the public.
