Louisville Zoo helped inspire novelist to write book set in India

Louisville Zoo book

Katy Yocom was born in Kansas but discovered her fascination with tigers in an unlikely place: Kentucky.

She first fell in love with tiger cubs while on walks at the Louisville Zoo – eventually traveling 8,000 miles to see the endangered animals in the wild at India’s Ranthambore National Park.

That trip informed and inspired Yocom’s first novel, “Three Ways to Disappear.” The publisher describes it as a story about “saving all that is precious, from endangered species to the indelible bonds among family.”

Just released this summer, the novel has been featured in the Times of India and Newsweek.
