Mayfield was home to a hall of fame pool player, Kentucky’s first female sheriff and author Bobbie Ann Mason. But its most famous residents? They are statues.
In Mayfield’s Maplewood Cemetery, you will find a fenced area of just over 500 square feet that contains 18 marble statues. Col. Henry G. Wooldridge commemorated his loved ones by erecting statues in their honor.
He’s buried there, alone, supposedly with all his money. In 2009, a tree fell and crushed several statues, but they were restored to their marble glory the following year. Don’t rush to Mayfield – Henry isn’t moving, after all.
