The bourbon and aging spirits inventory in Kentucky is the highest it’s been in over 50 years.
According to the Kentucky Distillers’ Association, there are now more than 9.1 million barrels of spirits aging in the Bluegrass State. That’s more than two for every Kentuckian. Most of the barrels hold Kentucky bourbon, plus about 600,000 barrels of other spirits like whiskey, gin and brandy.
Demand for Kentucky-made bourbon continues to grow, setting records every year. Over 2.1 million barrels of spirits were produced in the Bluegrass State in 2018. The last time Kentucky distillers filled that many barrels was back in 1967.
