Churchill Downs expands, purchasing Turfway Park in Florence

Plans include replacing the current grandstand with a $150 million racing and gambling facility. “Our team is poised to restore Turfway to its former glory,” said Churchill Downs president Kevin Flanery.

“It will create a more vibrant, year-round racing circuit and will lead to increased purses, which in turn stimulates the economy and creates jobs,” said Kentucky House Speaker David Osborne. “Turfway and northern Kentucky’s incredibly important role in racing history will not only be maintained but also enhanced,” he added.

The new facility will create 400 jobs and offer year-round entertainment with its live and historical thoroughbred racing facility.
